Here's something most shops won't explain: on many classic iPads (standard iPads and older models), the touch glass and the display underneath are separate layers. If your glass is shattered but the picture underneath is perfect, you may only need the glass/digitizer — the cheaper repair. On newer iPads (Airs, Pros, minis with laminated displays), glass and screen are fused and replaced as one.
