What condition means for laptops
Laptops have more to inspect than phones — here is exactly what each grade means and how it affects your offer.
Boots and runs normally, display is undamaged, keyboard and trackpad respond correctly, battery holds a usable charge. Minor surface marks acceptable. This is the full offer.
Functional but shows significant cosmetic wear, battery may hold less charge, or the original charger is missing. All hardware works — it just looks and functions like it's been well used.
Cracked, shattered, or delaminated display but the machine still boots. We deduct the screen repair cost — for MacBooks this is significant, since Apple Silicon screens are expensive. See the 'Damaged' column.
Dead on arrival, won't POST, severe liquid damage, or multiple hardware faults. We do board-level logic board and motherboard repair in-house — there is almost always some value, even for machines Apple calls dead.

Your files leave with you
We erase and re-provision the MacBook or laptop in front of you before you're paid. For Apple Silicon MacBooks this means a full Erase All Content and Settings — the Secure Enclave is wiped and the machine goes back to factory. For Intel Macs and Windows laptops we use Recovery Mode or a clean install. You watch the process complete before money changes hands.
Bring your Apple ID credentials for MacBooks. For Windows laptops, we just need your login password so we can sign out of Microsoft accounts before the reset.
Before you arrive
- MacBook (Apple Silicon)Know your Apple ID and password. Find My can stay on — we sign you out during the erase process.
- MacBook (Intel)Apple ID credentials. We use Recovery Mode (Command+R) to wipe and reinstall macOS.
- Windows laptopYour Microsoft account email and password so we can sign out before reset.
- ChargerBring the original charger if you have it — a matching charger adds small value and saves us time.
Broken laptops
Why we offer more for broken MacBooks than most buyers
Apple tells you a dead MacBook needs a full board replacement for $600–$1,200. Most resellers won't buy it at all. We do board-level logic board repair in-house — which means a dead MacBook is a repair job, not a parts-only proposition. We can buy dead or non-booting MacBooks at prices that reflect their repair potential, not their scrap value.
Won't power on
Often a failed power management IC — a $120–$180 board repair. We factor that into the buy price.
Black screen
Backlight fault or display controller — repairable at component level. Still has real value.
Liquid damage
Corrosion spreads — but board-level cleaning and component replacement can recover a machine most shops write off.
Sell laptop FAQs
Do you buy liquid-damaged MacBooks?
Yes — we do board-level MacBook logic board repair in-house, so we can buy liquid-damaged machines that most buyers refuse. The offer reflects what it costs to recover the board and make the machine sellable. Bring it in for a free diagnostic.
Does Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3) change how much you offer?
Yes, substantially. M-chip MacBooks hold value far better than Intel models. An M1 MacBook Air in good condition is worth 60–80% more than an equivalent Intel Air from 2020.
I have a higher-spec model (more RAM, more storage). Does that matter?
Yes, particularly on MacBooks. 16GB vs 8GB RAM can add $80–$150 to the offer. A 1TB vs 256GB SSD adds $50–$100. Tell us the specs when you call for an estimate, or we check them during the in-person inspection.
My MacBook was repaired before — does that affect the price?
It depends on the repair. A quality screen replacement has minimal impact. A logic board repair that works perfectly is fine. A botched repair that left the machine partially functional will reduce the offer. We assess it honestly and explain exactly what we find.
How do you wipe a MacBook with Apple Silicon?
We use System Settings → General → Transfer or Reset → Erase All Content and Settings, which fully wipes and re-provisions the Secure Enclave. For Intel models we use Recovery Mode. Either way you watch the process. Bring your Apple ID credentials.
Do you buy Windows laptops?
Yes — premium models (Dell XPS, ThinkPad, Surface, ASUS ROG, Razer) are our strongest Windows buys. Standard consumer laptops have lower resale value, but we still buy them. Chromebooks are worth significantly less.
Can I trade my laptop toward a repair on something else?
Yes. Trade-in credit applies to any repair or refurbished device purchase. Customers regularly trade an older MacBook to offset a PS5 repair or an iPhone screen fix.
What's the minimum laptop you'll buy?
There is no hard cutoff. Even a 2015 MacBook or a very old ThinkPad has parts value. If it boots and runs, it is worth more. Bring it in and we'll give you a number.
