Signs you need this repair
Ink-like blots, spreading black areas or a spiderweb crack. A cracked LCD only gets worse with lid movement.
Vertical or horizontal lines that don't move usually mean the panel is damaged. Lines that come and go when you tilt the lid point to the cable.
Often the display cable, a loose connector or a failing backlight section.
The backlight has failed, or its fuse or driver on the board has. The panel itself may still be fine.
The laptop is running and sending video. The fault is in the internal panel, cable or backlight, not the graphics.
On 2-in-1s like the HP Envy x360 or Surface, the touch layer is bonded to the glass and usually fails with it.
What usually causes it
Closing it on a pen or earbud, or carrying it in a packed backpack, cracks more screens than drops do.
A corner impact can crack the panel and bend the lid, which strains the hinges and cable.
The display cable runs through the hinge and flexes every time you open the lid. Over years it can fray or loosen.
A stiff or broken hinge twists the lid and stresses the panel and cable.
How we fix it
- 1Pin down the fault
We test with an external monitor, check the display cable and connector, and shine light on the panel to see if it's the backlight. That decides whether you need a panel, a cable or a board repair.
- 2Match the exact panel
We read your panel's part number and match size, resolution, refresh rate, connector, touch and finish. A 144Hz gaming panel needs a 144Hz replacement, not a 60Hz one that happens to fit.
- 3Careful removal
Some bezels snap off, others are glued. Many panels are held with adhesive strips we release slowly so the lid and cable aren't damaged.
- 4Install and inspect
We fit the new panel, reseat or replace the cable, and check the hinges while the lid is open.
- 5Full test
We check brightness, color, dead pixels, flicker at every lid angle, touch where fitted, and the webcam and microphone, which share the lid.

Most laptops use IPS or similar LCD panels. We match resolution, refresh rate and matte or glossy finish.
Deeper blacks and sharper color on premium models. OLED panels must be replaced with OLED.
On 2-in-1s and Surface devices the glass, touch layer and display are bonded, so they're replaced as one unit.
When the panel is fine but the cable or hinge is the problem, we replace only that.
How long it takes
Most laptop screens are done same or next day, and many on the same day when the panel is in stock. Touch assemblies, OLED panels, high-refresh gaming panels and less common models may need to be ordered, which adds time. If we find a cable or hinge problem too, we'll quote it and fix it in the same visit.

Repair or replace?
A new screen is almost always worth it on a laptop that otherwise runs well. The panel is one part, and the rest of the computer keeps working. It's less clear on an older budget laptop with a worn battery and a slow hard drive, where several repairs add up. If that's yours, we'll lay out the total so you can compare it with a new machine.
Thinking of fixing it yourself?
Some laptop screens are a fair DIY job: remove the bezel, unscrew the panel, swap the cable connector. The traps are buying the wrong panel (same size, different connector or refresh rate), tearing the thin display cable, and cracking a glued bezel. Touch and OLED panels are harder and more expensive to get wrong. If your new panel shows no image or flickers, stop and bring it in before you strain the cable further.

- Check the keyboard for pens, earbuds and cables before closing the lid.
- Open the lid from the center, not one corner.
- Use a padded sleeve in backpacks.
- Clean with a slightly damp microfiber cloth, not glass cleaner.
