Signs you need this repair
Won't turn on or charge
Start with the charger and port. A dead laptop is more often a power problem than a dead board.
Cracked, dark or flickering screen
A crack needs a new panel. Flicker that changes as you move the lid usually points to the display cable or hinge area.
Hot, loud and slowing down
Clogged fans and dried thermal paste make the processor throttle. Gaming laptops are especially prone to it.
Battery drains fast or the case bulges
A worn battery cuts runtime. A swollen one lifts the trackpad or keyboard and should be replaced soon.
Keys not working
After a spill or with age. On many laptops the keyboard is riveted into the top case, so the whole top case gets replaced.
Hinge cracking the case
Stiff hinges pull their mounts out of the plastic. Caught early it's a simple repair. Left alone it can damage the screen cable.
Liquid spill
Turn it off, unplug it, and bring it in as soon as you can. Corrosion keeps spreading even after it dries.

Repair or replace?
Repair usually wins when the laptop's processor still handles what you do and the fault is a screen, battery, keyboard, hinge, port or cooling. Those parts are a fraction of a new laptop's cost. Replacement makes more sense for an older budget laptop with several problems at once, or one with a processor that's struggling with today's software. We'll give you an honest answer, and if you replace it, we can move your files over.
Thinking of fixing it yourself?
Battery swaps and SSD upgrades are manageable on many laptops if you follow a guide for your exact model and disconnect the battery first. Screens are riskier, since display cables are fragile and many panels are glued. Keyboards on modern laptops are often riveted into the top case, which isn't a DIY job. If you spilled liquid, skip the rice and the hair dryer, power it off and bring it in. If a DIY repair stops booting, stop there. A half-finished repair is fixable. A torn ribbon cable or a shorted board makes it costlier.
After your repair
- Use the laptop on a hard surface so the vents can breathe.
- Keep the battery between about 20 and 80 percent for daily use if your laptop offers a charge limit setting.
- Close the lid gently, and check the keyboard for pens and earbuds first.
