Signs you need this repair
Black screen or No Signal
The PS5 powers on but the TV never sees it. Most of the time, that's the HDMI port.
Loud fan or overheating warning
Fan noise that keeps climbing, a heat warning or shutdowns in demanding games point to dust and a tired liquid metal interface.
Won't turn on
No light, a blink and then nothing, or a beep and shutdown. Usually the power supply or a single board fault.
Disc problems

Fan won't spin after a DIY clean
The PS5 fan connector is fragile. Pulled at the wrong angle, its pads tear off the board, and the console won't stay on.
Wired internet stopped working

What usually causes it
Cable pulled out of the HDMI port
The single most common PS5 failure. A bumped cable cracks the port's joints or bends the pins.
Dust and liquid metal wear
Dust fills the heatsink and the liquid metal between the processor and heatsink can shift over time, so the PS5 runs hotter.
Surges
Power surges can take out the internal power supply or parts of the board. Plugging straight into the wall makes it more likely.
DIY damage
A home clean-out gone wrong often ends in a torn fan connector, a broken ribbon cable or a stripped screw post.
Worn drive parts
The laser and loading mechanism wear with use, like any disc drive.

The board comes out, the broken port is desoldered under a microscope, and a new port is soldered in and tested at 4K and high refresh.

A full clean-out of the console, fan and power supply, then the liquid metal on the processor is cleaned and reapplied, with the area around it protected.
- 4Fan connector rebuild
Torn pads and traces under the fan connector are rebuilt under the microscope and a new connector is soldered on.

Dead power supplies are replaced and board faults are traced to the failed component. Drives are repaired around their original paired board, since the drive is matched to the console.

- If it was opened before, bring any loose screws or parts.
- Take out any disc that's in the drive, if it will eject.

Repair or replace?
The PS5 is very repairable, and for the common faults (HDMI, overheating, power supply, fan connector) repair costs a fraction of a new console. You keep your installed games, your settings and your storage upgrade. Replacement only makes sense when the main processor has failed or the board has extensive liquid or burn damage. If that's what the diagnostic finds, we'll tell you plainly and you won't pay for a repair that doesn't make sense.
Thinking of fixing it yourself?
PS5 owners can remove the side covers, vacuum the dust catchers and install an M.2 SSD, all of which Sony designed for. Going deeper is risky. The fan connector tears easily, the shielding clips are stiff, and the liquid metal on the processor is conductive enough to short the board if it spreads. HDMI port replacement on a PS5 needs hot air, a microscope and practice on a heavy multilayer board. If you got partway in and the console won't stay on or shows no picture, stop and bring it in. Rebuilding a DIY attempt is easier before more damage is done.
After your repair
- Use a surge protector.
- Give the PS5 room on every side and keep it out of closed cabinets.
- Use the stand when it's vertical, and unplug cables before moving it.
- Vacuum the dust catchers every few months.

Can a PS5 with a black screen be fixed?
Yes. It's usually a failed HDMI port, which we replace at board level. If the fault is the retimer chip behind the port, we diagnose and quote that separately.
Can a loud, overheating PS5 be fixed?
Yes. We do a full clean-out of the console, fan and power supply and reapply the liquid metal on the processor, then load test it.
What is liquid metal, and why does it need service?
Sony uses a gallium-based liquid metal between the processor and heatsink because it moves heat very well. Over time it can shift or thin out, so we clean it up and reapply it while keeping it contained.
Is the PS5 disc drive fixable?
Yes. The drive is paired to the console, so we repair it around its original board. On the Slim and Pro, the detachable drive pairs online the first time it's connected.
Is a PS5 with a torn fan connector ruined?
No. The torn pads and traces are rebuilt under a microscope and a new connector is soldered on.
