   Test every lens

   We open the camera app and switch through each rear lens, the front camera, video, flash and portrait mode. Testing in more than one app tells us if it is hardware or software.

   Inspect the lens covers

   Under magnification we look for cracks, chips, dust and moisture behind each cover. If the cover is the only damage, that is all we replace.

   Open and swap the module

   If a camera module has failed, we open the phone, disconnect the battery and replace the affected camera. On many iPhone Pro models the rear lenses come as one assembly.

   Clean and reseal

   Dust inside the camera bump is cleaned out before a new cover goes on with fresh adhesive, so it doesn't come back.

   Focus and stabilization test

   We check autofocus near and far, stabilization in video, the flash, zoom between lenses and the selfie camera before you take the phone back.

Camera problems usually come down to one of three parts. The price sheet on this page lists each one for your model, and we only replace what's actually broken.

Camera repairs are done the same day. A lens cover is the fastest. A rear module on a Pro model or a part we need to order takes longer, and we tell you the timing before you approve the work.

• Restart the phone and try a second camera app to see if the problem follows.
• Take a sample photo showing the problem, so we can compare after the repair.
• Back up your photos first, as you should before any repair.
• Remove the case and any camera lens protector so we can inspect the covers.
• Know your passcode so we can test every lens and mode afterward.

If only the lens cover is cracked, repair is an easy call. A full rear module on a newer Pro phone costs more, but it is still usually far less than a new phone, and the camera is often the reason people bought that model. On an older phone that also needs a battery and screen, we'll show you the total so you can decide whether to put that money toward something newer.

Replacing just a lens cover is a reasonable DIY job on some phones, but the old glass often shatters into the camera ring and a shard on the lens ruins photos. Module swaps mean opening the phone and handling flex cables a millimeter wide. On iPhone 12 and later, a camera from another phone may show a parts notice and some features can behave differently. If you see a crack in the actual camera lens beneath the cover, stop and let us look.

• Use a case with a raised ring around the cameras.
• Take the phone off motorcycle and scooter mounts, or use a mount with vibration damping.
• Wipe the lens covers with a microfiber cloth, not your shirt.
• If focus or stabilization acts up again, bring it back under the 90-day warranty.
